Zhu Zi’s “Respectful and Proverbs” Author: Jiao Deming

Source: “History of Chinese Philosophy” Issue 2019

Time: Confucius was in the 2570s and Gengzi June 29th, Guisi

The psychologist often writes words such as preaching and chanting, which is used to be self-vigilant when singing. Cheng once wrote the “Four Proverbs”, which detailed the image of “low and sweet head rejuvenation”. Zhu Zi attaches great importance to this type of prose and uses Cheng Xi’s “Four Proverbs” and Fan Jun’s “Heart Proverbs” in “The Collection of Notes of the Four Books”. Zhu Zi once wrote a self-warning article for his Kung Fu Preface, which is “Respectful and Preceptive”. As soon as this precept was released, all the teachers and friends and even later Zhu Zi students were praised, and soon became the Kung Fu guide for Zhu Zi students and even ordinary scholars. In the past, there was a special discussion on “Respect for the Principle”, and this article will conduct a preliminary discussion on “Respect for the Principle” from three aspects: the writing of “Respect for the Principle”, the notes and influences of “Respect for the Principle”, and the development and discussion of “Respect for the Principle”.

1. The writing of “Respectful Principles”

The writing time of “Respectful Principles” has three views in history. One is said in the “Three Years of Chunxi”. Wang Maohong’s “Excerpt of Zhu Zi’s Nian” recorded the “Records of Zhu Zi’s Nian” edited by Hong Jiazhi, a Qing Dynasty person, and held this view. This view should be “Zhu Zi Li” which is a wise man wearing a squid. In the third year of Chunxi, the “Studying the First Tomb of Wuyuan Province” in the third year of Chunxi, there was a saying that “I learned from the Wang family’s respect and respect with my fellow countrymen every day. With his abilities, I was untiring to follow the Wang family.” This Wang family is Wang Qingqing. Volume 8 introduces it, “Wang Qingqing, whose courtesy name is Zhan Zhong, is from Wuyuan. Zhu Zilu lived in his family and taught with the people of the country. He wrote “Jing Yi Zhen”. It can be seen that Dai believed that “Jing Yi Zhen” was written during the third year of Chunxi when Zhu Zi went to Wuyuan. The second type is said “after the seventh year of Chunxi”. Wang Maohong’s “Kaoyi” adheres to this statement. Wang Maohong believed that Hong Jiazhi’s statement was incorrect: “According to the previous topic of “Jingyi Zheng” says: ‘Read Zhang Jingfu’s “One Zheng of the Lord”, pick up his thoughts, write “Jingyi Zheng” and write “Jingyi Zheng” to warn himself.’ Nan Hua died in Gengzi, which was written after Gengzi. This is a meeting. I am now here.” 2. The third type is the “Eighth Year of Qiandao”. This statement is important because Shu Jingnan proposed in “Editor of Zhu Xi”. Shu family detailed theories of Hong and Wang: “He was born in Wuyuan, because Wang Qingqing named him “Jing Yi”, he praised it in his handbook “Jing Yi Zheng” because he did not say that “Jing Yi Zheng” was written in the third year of Chunxi.” “The ‘homility’ refers not to the meaning of Zhang’s death, but to the meaning of “Jing Yi Zheng” that was not explained by the Lord””3, which is enough to prove the mistakes of Dai, Hong and Wang. Shu believes that “Jing Yi Zhen” should be written in the October month of Renchen, the eighth year of Qiandao. The important reason for Shu’s judgment was Zhang Feng’s two letters, one of which was “Answer Hu Jisu” 4, which confessed that the writing time of “The Lord’s Proverb” was in the eighth year of Qiandao 5. Another letter “Answer Zhu Yuanhui” contains Zhang Feng’s evaluation of “Respect for the Advice”.He believed that “all are sitting on the right side of the book” (“Zhang Feng Collection”, page 1074), Shu believed that this letter was written in November of the eighth year of Qiandao, so “Jing Yu Zheng” should have been written before this month. Shu also tested Zhu Zi’s mother, who finally went to Wufuli in the seventh year of Qiandao, and named the Ziyang Building Bookstore from the beginning, so that she was named “Jingqi” and “Yiqi”. Only after this can there be a saying that “the wall of the book is to warn yourself”, which is the lower limit of time. The six entries as mentioned in the “Answering to Fang Boxi” in the ninth year of Qiandao, “Qiandao Guisi and Jiazi in the middle of the spring, written by Zhu Xi in Xin’an, Jian’an, and written by Wan’an” refer only to the date of writing the book, not the day of writing. From the above content, we can see that Shu’s examination is correct in terms of basic aspects. However, based on Zhang Feng’s “Answer Zhu Yuanhui”, we can only determine the maximum time for writing “Jing Yi Zheng” in October of the eighth year of Qiandao, and the specific time for writing “Jing Yi Zheng” to change the book room “Jing Yi” is not enough to determine the month, so the month for writing “Jing Yi Zheng” in the first draft does not need to be in October. And until the letters from Guisi and Fang Boxi in the ninth year of Qiandao, there is still a four-character “Big Bible is established” that is not available in the current version. It can be seen that the final draft of “Jing Yi Zheng” also took a process, and it is impossible to say that it was only written in the eighth year of Qiandao. Therefore, it should be said that “Jing Yi Zheng” was written in the eighth year of Qiandao, and the final draft was published in the ninth year of Qiandao, which is more suitable.

The preface of “Jing Yi Zheng” says, “Read Zhang Jingfu’s “The Lord’s One Proverb”, pick up his thoughts, write “Jing Yi Zheng”, and use the wall to warn yourself.” It can be seen that the writing of “Jing Yi Zheng” was inspired by Zhang Feng’s “Jing Yi Zheng”. Zhang Feng said:

Teacher Yichuan said: “The master is respectful.” He also said: “The master is respectful.” He also said: “The master is not suitable.” Alas! Who is more important to seek benevolence? Because the master is sitting on the right side, and he is a common saying: a person is naturally wise and has a straight life. If you defeat the Yi, you will never be able to do anything. The feeling of things is endless. Move without any trace, and the Tao may be reborn. Only when learning is important, keep respect and do not lose it. Only by experiencing the house can you know the income and expenditure. Why do you respect it? The beauty lies in the mastery. What is it? But it is unsuitable. If you live in a place without thinking, you will be able to do everything. Swimming in it, the bandits forget about the bandits. It is a pity that it is guaranteed or not. After a long time, it will be successful. Be willing to be tired, the holy ones can be punished. (“Zhang Feng Collection”, page 1318-1319)

Why did Zhang Feng write “The Lord’s Proverb” at this time? We can see from the sentence “Who needs this to seek benevolence.” In the seventh and eighth years of Qiandao, Zhang Feng gathered the words “Zhu Si Yan Ren Record” to “Zhu Si Yan Ren Ji” and sent a wide discussion with Zhu Zi and other friends, which led to Zhu Zi’s “Benefits” writing “Benefits” and exposed the so-called “Benefits” between Ren Chen and Gui Si. The remarks of Ren’s sayings occur between Renchen and Guisi, that is, the eighth and nineth years of Qiandao. The upper limit of the time of “The Master of the Lord” is ten months before the Renchen year of Qiandao. It can be seen that the writing of “The Master of the Lord” may be earlier than the remarks of Ren’s sayings. According to the “Records of the Year of Zhang Xuan”, in the eighth year of Qiandao, Zhang Bai and his friends had many letters to discuss the master 1. The purpose of Jure 8. So we can say that, or perhaps Zhang Feng had already felt that he had a good understanding of Confucius and Mencius’s decree after writing “Zhu Si Yan Ren Record”, so nextIt is necessary to walk in a practical way, keep an eye on one’s body, and be respectful in order to seek this kind of benevolence. Zhang Feng believed that “who needs this is the way to seek benevolence”, which means that the main way to seek benevolence is to say that one-sided respect is the most important way to seek benevolence. Zhang Feng’s “Answer Hu Guangzhong” says: “The comments on “The Master of One” are very generous, but it is a concern that the recent students are just imagining and do not want to do anything. What Teacher Yiluo said to be a
